Andreas Botsch

Andreas Botsch is currently Special Adviser to the President of the German Confederation of Trade Unions (DGB). From 2009-2014, he was a Senior Researcher at the European Trade Union Institute ETUI and special adviser to the European Trade Union Confederation ETUC, working on financial market regulation and macroeconomic policy, and co-founder and Member of the Board of Directors (treasurer) of Finance Watch in Brussels.
Prior to this, he occupied the position of Head of Economics Department and Secretary to the Executive Board at the DGB. Until 2002 he was Member of the German Bundestag Study Commission ‘Globalisation of the World Economy – Challenges and Policy Responses’ and Member of Supervisory Board of Deutsche Steinkohle AG until 2007. From 1998-2000 he was Counsellor of Employment and Social Affairs at the Permanent Representation of Germany to the EU in Brussels and prepared i.a. the Cologne European Council on EU Macroeconomic Dialogue. Prior to that, for a period of 10 years, he was Senior Policy Advisor at OECD’s Trade Union Advisory Committee (TUAC) in Paris. He is a member of several advisory groups, including the Friedrich Ebert Foundation’s ‘Kocheler Kreis’. He teaches at several academic institutions.
Mr Botsch studied Economics, Politics and Administration at the Universities of Freiburg, Konstanz and Paris (Institut d’Etudes Politiques and Université Paris-Dauphine).
